Student Support Team

Coordinated care around the student

Students are never expected to walk the Scoil Mhuire Journey alone. Support is strongest when the people around a student communicate, collaborate and respond early.
The Student Support Team contributes to a whole-school system of care. It helps bring together relevant information, professional insight and practical support so that a student experiencing difficulty can be understood and assisted in a coordinated way.

A network of support

Student support begins in daily relationships. A Subject Teacher may notice a change in engagement or progress. A Class Teacher provides a consistent point of connection. A Year Head holds an overview of the year group and the student’s school experience.

Guidance, AEN Team and the Student Support

The team provides additional expertise where needed. These structures do not operate in isolation. By working together, staff can consider the whole student -her learning, wellbeing, relationships, attendance, participation and personal circumstances - while respecting privacy and acting in her best interests.

Early support matters

A concern does not need to become a crisis before support is sought. Students are encouraged to speak with a trusted adult if they feel anxious, overwhelmed, isolated or unable to manage a difficulty alone.
Parents and guardians are likewise encouraged to contact the school when they notice a significant change or believe their daughter may need support.

How support may help

  • Listening carefully and identifying the student’s immediate needs.

  • Connecting the student with the most appropriate person or school support.

  • Agreeing practical steps that can help in school.

  • Monitoring progress and reviewing support where appropriate.

  • Working with parents, guardians or external professionals when necessary and appropriate.

A shared commitment

The purpose of student support is not to remove every challenge. It is to ensure that a young person feels seen, knows where help is available and develops the skills and confidence to move forward. Care, dignity, proportionate support and partnership guide this work.

If you are concerned, students may speak to a trusted member of staff. Parents and guardians may contact the relevant  Subject Teacher, Class Teacher or Year Head so that the concern can be considered and the appropriate next step identified.
