Discover Our 6-Year Academic Journey
Junior Cycle
At Scoil Mhuire College, Junior Cycle is much more than a three-year programme of study. It is the beginning of a journey of learning, growth and self-discovery, where every student is encouraged to develop her knowledge, confidence, character and sense of purpose.
Transition Year
Discover Your Potential. Embrace New Possibilities. Transition Year is a unique and transformative experience at Scoil Mhuire College.
Senior Cycle
Senior Cycle at Scoil Mhuire is about far more than preparing students for the Leaving Certificate. It is about nurturing ambitious, confident and compassionate young women who are ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.
Aspire.
Become.
Year 1 - Belong
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, bringing new friendships, new opportunities and new experiences. In First Year, our priority is ensuring that every student feels welcomed, valued and connected.
Through our comprehensive induction programme, dedicated pastoral care system and vibrant school community, students quickly become confident members of Scoil Mhuire. They are supported by their Class Teacher, Year Head, Meitheal Leaders and the wider school community as they establish routines, build friendships and begin their secondary school journey.
At Scoil Mhuire, we believe that before students can truly learn, they must first know that they belong.
Year 2 - Grow
Second Year is a year of development, exploration and increasing independence.
Students deepen their knowledge, strengthen study habits and become more confident learners while embracing new opportunities in academic, sporting, cultural and extracurricular life. They are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning, participate fully in school life and continue developing the resilience, responsibility and compassion that underpin our school community.
Growth at Scoil Mhuire is measured not only by academic progress but also by the confidence, kindness and independence our students develop along the way.
Year 3 - Achieve
Third Year brings together everything students have learned throughout Junior Cycle.
Students are supported to prepare confidently for Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs), Assessment Tasks and the Junior Cycle examinations while maintaining a healthy balance between academic achievement and personal wellbeing. Teachers provide high-quality instruction, regular feedback and individual support to ensure every student reaches her potential.
Achievement at Scoil Mhuire is about much more than examination results. It is about perseverance, resilience, consistent effort and believing in yourself. We celebrate every student's unique achievements, whether academic, sporting, artistic, musical or personal, recognising that success is measured by the progress each individual makes.
Year 4 - Discover
Transition Year offers every student the opportunity to:
Discover new talents and interests
Develop confidence, independence and resilience
Build leadership and teamwork skills
Explore future careers and pathways
Experience learning in new and exciting ways
Become active contributors to their school and wider community
Throughout the year, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, reflect on their experiences and embrace opportunities that help shape the person they are becoming.
Year 5 - Aspire
Building Confidence. Raising Ambition. Shaping the Future.
Fifth Year marks the beginning of the Leaving Certificate programme and the first stage of Senior Cycle.
It is a year in which students strengthen their academic foundations while developing greater independence, leadership and responsibility. Through Volume 5 – Aspire, students are encouraged to think beyond examinations, raise their aspirations and begin making informed decisions about their future.
Aspire is about discovering not simply what students want to achieve, but who they want to become.
Year 6 - Become
Sixth Year is the final stage of The Scoil Mhuire Journey and the culmination of six years of learning, growth and personal development. As students prepare for the Leaving Certificate, they also prepare for life beyond Scoil Mhuire. Supported by experienced teachers who know them well, students are challenged academically while receiving the guidance and encouragement they need to perform at their very best.
Structured guidance, supervised study, mentoring, wellbeing initiatives and personalised support ensure that every student approaches this important year with confidence.
