Sports at Scoil Mhuire

Building Confidence. Inspiring Participation. Nurturing for Life.

At Scoil Mhuire, we believe that sport is about much more than competition. It is about building confidence, developing resilience, creating friendships and encouraging every student to lead an active and healthy life.

Guided by our ethos of Nurturing for Life, we provide opportunities for every young woman to participate, challenge herself and discover the many benefits that sport can bring. Whether representing the school at the highest level or trying a new activity for the very first time, every student is encouraged to become involved and enjoy being part of our vibrant sporting community.

A School at the Heart of Cork

Perched just off Patrick's Hill and overlooking the city, Scoil Mhuire occupies three beautiful Georgian houses that have been home to generations of young women since 1951. Our unique setting gives the school a warmth, character and sense of identity unlike any other.

Our city-centre location is one of our greatest strengths. Rather than being confined to a single campus, our students benefit from access to an exceptional range of sporting facilities, theatres, museums, galleries, universities and cultural venues across Cork. The city itself becomes an extension of the classroom, opening doors to experiences that enrich learning, broaden horizons and encourage students to engage with the world around them.

Our partnerships with local clubs, sporting organisations and cultural institutions enable students to train in specialist facilities, experience high-quality coaching and participate in a wide variety of sporting and cultural activities. It is an approach that reflects our commitment to Nurturing for Life—providing opportunities that help every student discover her strengths, develop new skills and grow in confidence.

A Wide Range Of Sporting Opportunities.

Alongside our successful hockey and basketball programmes, students have opportunities to participate in a broad range of sports and physical activities, including:

  • Athletics

  • Cross Country

  • Swimming

  • Equestrian

  • Sailing

  • Rowing

  • Tennis

Participation varies throughout the year according to student interest and competition schedules, ensuring every student has opportunities to become involved and enjoy a rich and varied sporting experience.

More Than Sport

Because when young women are encouraged to participate, supported to grow and inspired to believe in themselves, they develop qualities that last a lifetime. That is what it means to be Nurturing for Life.

Nurturing For Life.

At Scoil Mhuire, success is measured by much more than results. Through sport, students develop resilience, leadership, teamwork, commitment and respect—qualities that remain with them long after they leave school.

Whether competing for the school, training with teammates or simply enjoying an active lifestyle, students learn to support one another, embrace challenges and celebrate achievement together. These experiences help shape confident, compassionate young women who are prepared for life beyond the classroom.

Sport is an important part of the Scoil Mhuire Journey. It promotes physical and emotional wellbeing, encourages healthy habits and helps students develop the confidence to embrace new opportunities.

At Scoil Mhuire, we believe every young woman deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of participation, the value of teamwork and the satisfaction of personal achievement.
